ArrowheadReviewsCharlton Heston does a commendable performance here as does Jack Palance. A mediocre script tends to make it boring in parts but Heston and Palance pull it off as 2 strong willed personalities bent on doing each other in. Recommended for good dramatic rivalry between Heston and Palance. HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE BEFOR, I LIKED IT VERY MUCH I INJOY WATCHING OLD MOVIES. This has got to be one of the main movies in mind when people talk about the old anti-indian movies. I cringed through the whole thing. No respect is given to the Apache point of view whatsoever. What's more is that the "pro-indian" US Army is made to look foolish for coddling the rascals. It incorporates some elements of the Ghost Dance phenomenon from the Sioux indians in a very inappropriate and offensive way. Charlton Heston exudes an arrogance that Al Sieber (the real person his character is very loosely based on) was not known for. Later in life, of course, Heston was involved in supporting the civil rights movement and (something near to my heart) gun rights; but back in 1953 he made one really unfair movie. Excellent old fashion Western from back in the days when the writting was good and gritty and the stars were real and yet larger than life. Unlike the inflatable big headed morons we get today, like Mr. Cruise and Mr. Pitt. Charleton Heston Rules the screen with a simple yet strong present. He is no pretty boy. His rugged face make you belive he did that kind of work regardless of the role instead sitting around all day getting manicure/pedicures and living a "FAKE" religion as tax/mental healt permanant commital dodge. Watah any of his performances and you will see why he won several Oscars simply because he EARNED THEM WITH HARD WORK and not through being a popular pretty boy. The rest of the cast is awesome and believable as well. Any film with Jack Palance as the villain is intense and strong... This great actor is unique and classic in this respect! His order to his braves: 'There will be no more fighting until Bannon has met Toriano!,' marks a summary of the entire motion picture: Toriano against Bannon! But who are these two men? Ed Bannon (Charlton Heston) is the Chief of Scouts for U.S armed forces fighting Apaches in the post Civil War... He despises Apaches: 'Anything Toriano for, I'm against!' Toriano (Jack Palance) is the son of the Old Apache Chief Chattez (Frank Dekova). He rejects permanent confinement and refuses to accept how his warriors are gathered like cattle in their reservation... Apache Wars were among the fiercest fought on the frontier... The U.S government attempted to limit their territories and movements... In the film we learn that an Indian cannot touch, harm or kill a man if he comes unarmed into their encampment; an Apache leader can be mystified through the Great Spirit by ritual drum beat; when an Indian and a white man are blood brothers, the only way to break the bound was for one of the two to die-- This explains why Toriano and Bannon assigned the time and place to meet in a single combat to death at the end of the picture... The pretty Katy Jurado is Bannon's lover, a young girl, half Indian, half Mexican, who admires Toriano as a true leader...Wanting to serve him, she keeps an eye on Bannon, spying all his moves... Shot in Technicolor, with good directing and strong supporting cast (Brian Keith in his film debut), "Arrowhead," overcomes as a good-looking Western by the excellent acting of its stars... The Official Overstreet Identification and Price Guide to Indian Arrowheads, 11th Edition (Official Overstreet Indian Arrowhead Identification and Price Guide)ReviewsGreat material with color setions and lots of examples/pictures. Good to see Northwest included in this guide. Highly recommended addition to a solid reference collection. Worth the price. If you enjoy looking a the type of artifacts that are in your region, you will enjoy owning this book. The Overstreet series of books have a system for identifying and determining the value of prehistoric arrowheads in the continental United States and Alaska. The book is divided into geographic zones, such as the Southwest, or the North Central, etc. You will need to know the general area where the arrowhead came from, and then compare its general shape with other known types in the same area. Once you have identified one or several types that are similar to the arrowhead you are attempting to identify, you can compare your arrowhead to the pictures and descriptions of the other similar type or types. These pictures are in black and white, except for a few pages of broad/general overview of all arrowheads. The book is very useful for identifying the specific name of the arrowhead you are attempting to identify and its age. It also lists the "wholesale" and "retail" dollar values of the arrowheads. These values seem to be consistently higher than those in other references. There is also a section on "Old World" artifacts with descriptions and color pictures, but no values. In my opinion, the real value of this book is in helping you to identify what you have. I'm a beginner and this has been a great book for me. I would recommend it for advanced and beginner. A great book! I have found the Overstreet book concerning arrowheads to be a "must have" guide when delving into the world of Indian artifacts. It is easy to use as well as very expansive in covering the types of arrowheads found in North America. Average Rating:![]() |

Arrowheads And Projectile Points (Identification & Values (Collector Books))ReviewsI enjoy this book very much. I think you will find it valuable too. This is a great book and very informative. THis book can be used by the novice or by an avid collector. Many useful articles and pictures. Very well illustrated and handy. Good overall, although only basic pictures, simple text but get the point across. THis book is really the same for over a decade now, but has updated realistic prices. Lar did great and his son has done well since his passing. Good value price too. Mr. Hothem puts together a book that is easy reading but I wish it had a section which showed exactly what characteristics designates certain points from each other (with a diagram). Otherwise, I found the book to be a nice companion book to other arrowhead books I have. This 223 page's book is an excellent introduction to the world of prehistoric amerindian projectile points and arrowheads. In some very nice photos and inscriptions you could find the "keys" to what you collect, their relative prices, regional classification and chipping techniques. A simple and practical relation describes the U.S. materials used to make arrowheads and blades including all the regional types, edges, shapes, individual characteristics of each piece and instructions to take care with them. Indispensable to begginers and advanced collectors this book certainly attempt the amateur archaeologist's expectation. Average Rating:![]() |

Arrowheads & Stone Artifacts: A Practical Guide for the Amateur ArchaeologistReviewsThis book got far better reviews than it deserves. It mostly is an advertisement for the Author. This is the best guide for the amateur archeologist we have found to date. Written in layman's terms, excellent photos and descriptions. Only disagreement we have is that the author suggests that it is acceptable to take some artifacts such as arrowheads. We disagree -- all are more valuable in situ. Not only is this book very helpful to us amateur archaeologists, but it gives a great treatment of the feeling of doing fieldwork in southeastern Wyoming and northern Colorado. Being from this area, I was naturally thrilled to read about all the sites that are found practically in my back yard. The author writes in an extremely engaging manner and you will be hard-pressed to put the book down once you start reading. Highly recommended! This one is a MUST HAVE for serious artifact hunters or for those who aspire to be... it's the ABSOLUTE BEST guide for finding ancient arrowheads and artifacts. The reason I like this one best is because it first educates the reader about all sorts of artifacts, with lots of photos; it explains what they look like and what they were used for, etc... just so you'll know "what" to look for out in the field. It then goes on to give information about the types of ancient sites, AND how to locate them !(I also like it because it's VERY inexpensive, for the information it imparts.) Sincerely, Terry Baxter WesternArtifacts.com This book by Mr. Yeager is easy to read and is well thought out. I use it frequently to identify different artifacts that I come across. However, I wish that the point identification chart used actual photo examples rather than line drawings as the drawings are hard to use for identification purposes. Overall a very good artifact book for those interested in surface collecting. Average Rating:![]() |

Bone Arrowhead Black Leather Necklace...ReviewsI searched and searched to try and find the perfect thank you gift for my ring bearer (my nephew) in my recent wedding. There are little to no suggestions on the internet for gift ideas and it was really hard to figure something out. He loves Native American things and loves arrowheads, so after a lot of research I decided to buy him this particular arrowhead necklace. Though it is not made from stone, as typical arrowheads are, I thought the idea of carved bone would be really neat. I am so happy that I bought this one! The necklace arrived within 3 days of me placing the order (super fast shipping!) it was packaged great to avoid damage and when I opened the wrapping I was very pleased...the necklace was gorgeous! The bone arrowhead pendant was very evenly dyed and had a neat light feel to it, so though it is rather large it was not heavy, when being worn you would hardly know it was there. I wrapped it up and shortly thereafter gave it to my nephew on my wedding day. HE LOVED IT! I never seem to be able to get him presents that he likes (he's 10) and so I was worried I would fail again :( But, he loved it so much that he put in on immediately! Now, obviously I hadn't planned for him to be wearing a large arrowhead necklace while dressed in a formal tuxedo walking down the aisle with our wedding rings in hand (wasn't really the look I was going for LOL ;) but he was so happy about it that I didn't even mind :) It was actually really cute! The only down side to the gift was that he wanted to take it to school to show his friends and he couldn't because of its size and sharp point...they consider just about anything a weapon now days...even a G.I.Joe mini plastic gun! I would highly recommend this item to anyone! i got nothin' bad to say about this only i hope i never fall on it because it has a sharp point. Average Rating:![]() |
